Bridge page

Also called presell page, pre-landing page, pre-sell page, intermediate page.

Short answer

A bridge page is an intermediate page the affiliate sends traffic to before the visitor clicks through to the store. The page pre-sells the offer, meets ad platforms' requirements for original content and makes it possible to measure who clicked through.

Definition of Bridge page.

A bridge page is short and has one purpose. Typically one message, a handful of arguments, perhaps an image or a video, and a button. Navigation, footer links and sidebar are usually removed, because every alternative to the button costs visitors. The button contains the affiliate link, and that is where the click is registered.

The reason for building one is rarely conversion alone. Ad platforms set requirements for what paid traffic may be sent to, and a page on the affiliate's own domain with real content meets more of them than a direct link to a page the affiliate does not own. At the same time the affiliate gets their own data point: how many landed, how many clicked through and where they came from.

The price is an extra step. Every page in the chain loses visitors, so a bridge page has to earn back its loss by raising the conversion rate on the store's page. That happens when the page genuinely explains something the customer did not know – and it does not happen when the page simply repeats the store's own product copy with a button underneath.

What separates a bridge page from spam

The legitimate version has original content, and it is clear who is behind it and that the link is commercial. The illegitimate version imitates the store, invents reviews or shows countdowns that restart when the page is reloaded.

In Denmark, advertising must be identifiable as advertising. A bridge page written as a personal recommendation without disclosing the commercial relationship does not meet that requirement, however well it converts.

How it goes wrong

  • 01

The button is not the affiliate link

If the button points to the store's plain domain instead of the affiliate link, the visitor arrives, but without a click ID. The sale happens, and there is nobody to credit. It is the most common and most expensive mistake on a bridge page.

  • 02

The page is thin or copied

A page with two sentences and a button, or with the store's product copy pasted in, is rejected by ad platforms and does not rank organically. Without original content, the bridge page has none of the advantages it was built for.

  • 03

    No advertising disclosure

A bridge page written in the first person without disclosing the commercial relationship looks like editorial content. The requirement that advertising must be recognisable as advertising also applies to a page that exists only to send people onwards.

At Affilyflow

Bridge page in practice

A bridge page does not change when the click counts on Affilyflow. The click is registered when the visitor follows the affiliate link – that is, on the button out of the bridge page, not on arrival at it. Both the commission rate and the attribution window are locked at that moment, and the length of the window is decided on our server.

That has a practical consequence for how the page is built: the button must be the affiliate link. If it leads to the store's plain domain, the visitor arrives without a click ID, and then there is no attribution to credit when the order comes in.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bridge page in affiliate marketing?

A bridge page is an intermediate page on the affiliate's own domain where traffic lands before being sent on to the store via the affiliate link. The page pre-sells the offer, gives the affiliate their own data on who clicks through, and meets the content requirements ad platforms set for paid traffic.

Are bridge pages allowed in advertising?

It depends on the page's content. Ad platforms typically require original content, clarity about who is behind the page, and that the page does not mislead about what happens on the click. A bridge page that meets this is usually allowed, while a thin or imitating page is rejected. The rules change, so check the current policy.

Does a bridge page cost conversions?

Yes, at the first step, where some of the traffic never clicks through. In return, those who do click through arrive better informed, so the conversion rate at the store can rise. The bridge page is a gain when the two steps together beat direct linking.

Does a bridge page need to be labelled as advertising?

Yes. When the page exists to send visitors onwards via a link that triggers commission, it is commercial communication, and that must be clear to the reader. The label must be visible without having to scroll or click to find it.
