Amazon Associates in Denmark: how it works in 2026
Co-founder, product and technology
The short answer
- There is no Danish Amazon associates program: Amazon's own overview as of October 2026 lists no amazon.dk. An affiliate in Denmark has to use one of the country programs, typically Amazon.de or Amazon.se, and each program requires its own sign-up.
- Rates are set per product category: on Amazon.de from 0 to 6 %, on Amazon.se from 0 to 12 % (as of October 2026, Amazon's own rate overviews).
- A purchase only counts if it happens within 24 hours of the click – or if the item was added to the basket in that window and ordered no later than 89 days after the click. That is short compared with Danish programs, where the window is typically days or weeks.
- Amazon suits a broad, international audience best. If you write in Danish for Danish readers, Danish web shops are often a better match – compare the rate and the cookie window, not just the name.
Short answer: yes, someone living in Denmark can earn money from Amazon's affiliate program, but there is no Danish program. Amazon has no amazon.dk on its overview of country programs as of October 2026, so you have to join one of the foreign ones – in practice typically Amazon.de (Germany) or Amazon.se (Sweden). That means your readers have to shop in a German or Swedish Amazon store for you to earn commission. Whether that fits your audience is the most important question in this whole guide.
We go through how Amazon's program (Amazon Associates, in German PartnerNet) works for an affiliate in Denmark: which countries you can choose, what the rates are, how long a click counts, how you get paid, and what to watch out for with ad labelling and tax. Finally we compare with Danish web shops via an affiliate network. All Amazon facts are taken from Amazon's own terms and rate overviews and apply as of October 2026 – Amazon changes them regularly, so check them yourself before you build a business on them.
Important
Our interest, said out loud
Affilyflow is a Danish affiliate network and therefore an alternative to Amazon for affiliates in Denmark. We have tried to describe Amazon as precisely as possible from Amazon's own pages – and we also tell you when Amazon is the best choice.
Does Amazon Associates exist in Denmark?
Not as a Danish program. Amazon's overview of international associates programs lists, as of October 2026, programs in among others the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Poland – but not Denmark. Each program is tied to its own Amazon store, and Amazon itself states that your associate ID only works in the store you have joined. If you want to earn on both Amazon.de and Amazon.se, you have to sign up in two places.
In the terms we have reviewed, we have not found a requirement that you live in the country the program belongs to. The terms require that you can legally enter into agreements and that you provide bank or payment details. Do read the terms yourself when you sign up, though – they are what applies, not our review.
Amazon.de or Amazon.se?
The choice is about where your readers shop. Amazon.de is a big store with a broad range, but the language is German. Amazon.se is in Swedish and has its own rate overview, which as of October 2026 is higher than the German one in several categories. Rates are not the whole picture: a link to a store your reader will not shop in earns nothing, whatever the rate.
| Category | Amazon.de | Amazon.se |
|---|---|---|
| Clothing, shoes, watches and fashion | 6 % | 12 % |
| Books, Kindle e-books, kitchen and home | 5 % | 8 % |
| Beauty | 4 % | 8 % |
| Mobile phones and mobile electronics | 2.5 % | 5 % |
| Games consoles | 1 % | 1 % |
| Gift cards | 0 % | 0 % |
| All other categories | 3 % | 5 % |
The table is simplified – both countries have more categories than there is room for here, and some products earn 0 %. On Amazon.de, for example, groceries and video games earn 1 %, while Amazon.se pays 10 % on Amazon's own devices such as Kindle and Echo. Amazon can also run special campaign rates. See the full overview in your associates dashboard.
The 24-hour cookie: the most important difference
What many people overlook is how long a click counts. According to Amazon's terms, a purchase counts when the customer orders within 24 hours of clicking your link. If the customer adds the item to the basket within those 24 hours, the purchase also counts if the order is placed no later than 89 days after the click. The item must also be shipped and paid for within 180 days. If the customer only buys tomorrow, without having added the item to the basket, you get nothing.
By comparison, stores with us choose a cookie window between 14 and 90 days, and the window is locked on the click. That matters for expensive or considered purchases – a pram, a bike, a piece of software – where people compare for days before they buy. For cheap impulse purchases the window matters less, and there Amazon's broad range is a strength: you earn commission on the whole basket, including items you did not link to yourself.
Tip
Do the maths on the window, not just the rate
A rate of 8 % with a 24-hour window can earn less than 6 % with a 30-day window if your readers typically think it over. Look at your own readers' behaviour: do you write about products people buy straight away, or something they research for weeks?
How to become an Amazon associate from Denmark
Choose a country program
Find out where your readers want to shop. If you write in Danish, ask yourself whether they would rather buy on German or Swedish Amazon – or in a Danish web shop.
Create the associates account
Sign up on the chosen country's associates page with an Amazon account. You must state the websites and channels where you will use links, and details for payouts.
Create links to products
Links are created with Amazon's tools in the associates dashboard. The link carries your associate ID and only works in the Amazon store you have joined.
Label the content as advertising
Danish rules apply to content aimed at Danish readers, even if the program is German or Swedish. The Danish Consumer Ombudsman recommends writing 'Reklamelink' or 'Annoncelink' (ad link) above or right next to the link. See ad disclosure.
Follow the rules closely
Amazon's program policies (Programmrichtlinien) are detailed – there are, for example, rules on using Amazon's name in paid search ads. Read them before you start, so you do not break a rule without knowing it.
Payout: when and how
According to Amazon.de's terms, commission is paid out about 60 days after the end of the month in which it was earned. You can choose bank transfer or Amazon gift cards; the minimum amount for bank transfer is €25 on Amazon.de and SEK 50 on Amazon.se. The money is paid in the store's currency, but you can choose another currency at Amazon's conversion rate. Gift cards can only be used in the Amazon store where the commission was earned.
At Affilyflow, approved commission is paid out automatically on the first banking day of the month in Danish kroner, once the balance is at least DKK 100. A sale is pending during the program's approval period (30–90 days) before it is approved.

Amazon is a good choice if you write for an international audience, in English or German, about products sold mainly on Amazon – or if your readers already shop there. If you write in Danish for Danish readers, it is often more natural to recommend Danish web shops: the reader shops in their own language, with Danish delivery and return rights, and a longer cookie window also catches those who think it over. Which stores you can choose from, and what they pay, you can see in the program directory.
One does not rule out the other. Many affiliates use several networks and programs and choose the best link for each article. The most important thing is to measure: look at EPC – earnings per click for each program, not just the rate. If you are new to the field, start with our guide to affiliate marketing.
Tax on Amazon commission
Commission from Amazon is taxable in Denmark in the same way as commission from a Danish network – you are the one who must report it, because no Danish tax is withheld. VAT is more complicated when the commission comes from a foreign company: here the reverse charge rules typically apply, and that can require VAT registration. We have gone through the difference between Danish and foreign networks in affiliate income tax and VAT in Denmark. Check your specific situation on skat.dk or with an accountant – and if you are taxed outside Denmark, with your own tax authority.
If you want to get started with Danish programs instead or as a supplement, see how to become an affiliate with Affilyflow – and if you want to build a site for the purpose, we have the whole plan in build an affiliate site. Frequently asked questions
Is there an Amazon Associates program in Denmark?
No, not as of October 2026. Amazon's own overview of associates programs lists no amazon.dk. People in Denmark can instead join one of the country programs, for example Amazon.de or Amazon.se, and each program requires its own sign-up.
Can you be an Amazon associate if you live in Denmark?
Yes. In the terms we have reviewed, we have not found a requirement to live in the program's country, but you must be able to enter into agreements and provide details for payouts and tax. Read the terms when you sign up, because they are what applies.
How much commission does Amazon Associates pay?
It depends on the category. As of October 2026 the standard rates on Amazon.de are between 0 and 6 percent and on Amazon.se between 0 and 12 percent. Fashion pays the most, mobile electronics and games consoles the least, and gift cards nothing.
How long does the Amazon cookie last?
24 hours after the click. If the customer adds the item to the basket within those 24 hours, the purchase also counts if it is completed no later than 89 days after the click. The item must be shipped and paid for within 180 days.
How do you get paid by Amazon Associates?
Amazon.de pays out about 60 days after the end of the month in which the commission was earned, by bank transfer with a minimum of 25 euros or as Amazon gift cards. Amazon.se has a minimum of 50 Swedish kronor for bank transfer.
Do I have to pay tax on commission from Amazon?
Yes. If you are taxed in Denmark, the commission is taxable there, and no Danish tax is withheld, so you must report it yourself. Because Amazon is a foreign company, special VAT rules may apply. Check skat.dk or ask an accountant.
